DONATE TO THE Y: GREGG BICHÉ
I was originally drawn to Camp Chingachgook by my love of Lake George and the idea of sending my children to an overnight camp that allows them time in an Adirondack setting away from electronics and parents for a week. I continued this involvement in the YMCA and Camp Chingachgook once I realized they provide an opportunity for children and families of all income levels to experience Camp Chingachgook, not just based on their ability to pay.
The Camp director told me a story of a young refugee child celebrating her birthday with a party for the first time ever at camp and the joy it brought to that child. Stories like this make it easy for me stay involved. Camp offers scholarships to over 250 kids every year. They provide summer camp experiences and support to refugees, among other specialty groups such as Camp to Belong, where kids from New York State’s foster care system attend camp free of charge. They have created a program called Y-Knot to give individuals with disabilities the chance to sail on Lake George, and they offer a first class counselor in training program that prepares young adults for the world ahead by helping them build confidence and leadership skills.
This is all made possible with the support of donors like you.
I’m grateful to have the ability to send my children to a Camp like this and it gives me great pride to know I’m helping to provide the same life-changing opportunity for other children. Last year alone the Capital District YMCA helped more than 3400 families in need.
Please help us make sure we can continue to support those in need again this year.
Better Together, We’re Building a Stronger Community.
Every day, the Capital District YMCA gives our community the support it needs to learn, grow and thrive.
From advocacy to preserving the environment, disease prevention to athletics, football to dance classes, everything we do helps strengthen our neighborhood and the people who live here.
At Camp Chingachgook on Lake George, we provide young people with the skills and confidence needed to thrive today, tomorrow, and for years to come.
Every day, our community faces new challenges that create a greater need for the work we do. And we need your help to do it.
For a better you. For a better community. For a better Chingachgook.
